Norma Jean Bailey Helton. Born July 20, 1935 to James and Ella Bailey, one of 13 children. She recalled fondly her time growing up in Stratford, Oklahoma, and then in the Hugo area. Norma graduated from Goodland High School in Southeast Oklahoma, eventually moving to Oklahoma City to pursue a livelihood. Through friends, she met Billy Nicholas Helton, a tall, wiry young man who played guitar and sang. After corresponding with him while he was stationed overseas, Norma fell in love with Bill, and the two of them married in June of 1956. Norma's passions of family and faith evolved early. A devout Christian, she built a life as a spiritual giant and prayer warrior, mentoring others to walk by faith. Although not a musician initially, she and Bill turned their newfound ability to harmonize into a Country Gospel ministry, performing regularly in church, for Senior Centers and Nursing Homes. She helped Bill build their business, Bill's Communications, from a small two-man operation to one of the pioneering vendors of mobile communication technology. She served as Vice President and President of Bill's Communications until she retired. Norma is fondly remembered by friends and family for her smile, her humor and her passionate faith. Despite the stresses and rigors of owning a small business, she exhibited joy and hope, regularly sharing her faith in God and His ability to move. Through difficult times, she clung to Romans 8:28, believing that "All things work together for good, to them that love God, to them who are called to His purpose." Norma is remembered fondly and survived by her children, Roger Helton, of Alabama; Jeanie and Mike Branscum of Bethany and their children Nick, Meagan and Jarrett; Lesa Helton and friend Bob Palmateer, and her children Hannah and Levi. She is also survived by her sister, Minema "Sam" Jackson of Corpus Christi, TX; brother, Bob Bailey of Hugo, Oklahoma; and scores of nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones. Services will be Thursday, March 21, 10:00am at Mercer-Adams Chapel with interment in Bethany Cemetery.
