Nettie Fern (Close) Hanner, age 93, was born the third of nine children to Jacob Norton and Nellie Grace (Addington) Close on October 3, 1916, in Bucklin, Kansas. She passed away Sunday, May 23, 2010, at Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City, OK. Nettie attended Bresee College in Hutchinson, KS, and Dodge City Junior College in Dodge City, KS. Nettie and Marvin LaVerne Hanner were married March 31, 1941, in Garden City, KS. They made their home in Dodge City where they were very active in their churches. Nettie was also in charge of home nursery, visiting new mothers and had prayer meetings and bible studies in their home. Nettie adopted elderly ladies, taking care of them and making them her home-made-meals, including Sister Guy, whom some of you might remember. Nettie and Marvin moved to Oklahoma City, OK, in 1977, and just like in Dodge City, Nettie shared and took food that she had raised in her garden to all of her neighbors. Upon arriving in Oklahoma City, they joined Bethany First Nazarene Church where Nettie was a member until her death. Nettie and Marvin were married for 63 wonderful years until Marvin passed away December 4, 2003. Also preceding her in death were her parents; brothers: Lenis Close and Leon Close; sister: Leone Reazin; and son-in-law Rev. Jim Morrison. Netties surviving family includes daughters: Rita Morrison; Marlene and husband Charles Roach, Rhonda and husband Greg Gunn.
