Esther Naomi Campbell Walker was born June 12, 1931 in Yuma, Colorado, to Henry Burton Campbell and Eva Eliza Pittman Campbell. She was the youngest of thirteen (13) children. She is survived by three of her sisters, Myrna Wall, of Oregon, Roberta Stuckey and Eunice Richardson of Colorado. "Nomi" as she was known to all, until she became "Grandma" in 1985, is also survived by one daughter, Deborah Harrington, of Bethany, granddaughters, Rachel Kahn and Will Rattler, of OKC, and Abby Harrington and Christian Bordeaux of the home in Bethany.
Naomi was preceded in death by her parents, Henry & Eva and by her husband, Billy Walker, to whom she was married for 45 years until Bills death in 2006. She was also preceded in death by beloved grandson, Joshua Wesley Kahn, who passed at the age of 27, in August 2012. Preceding her in death were her brothers, Donald, Vaughn, Lloyd and Robert, as well as her sisters, Fern, Ruth, Ruby, Edith and Beulah.
Perhaps her greatest role was that of GREAT-grandmother, which she became in 2005, with the birth of Jayden Kahn, whom she adored! She is survived by Rachels children: Jayden and Tierra Kahn, and JaMauri and JShaun Kimbrough, all of Oklahoma City. She secretly loved it when they all came over at once, jumping into her lap, sitting on the side of her bed, or begging for Ramen Noodles, which no one could make like "Nomi"! She also loved Josh and Mystenes children, Khloe and Skylar, and longed to see them once again.
She is also survived by Deborahs daughter, Abby Harrington, who formed a perfect bond with her Grandma, as she applied her nursing skills to be Naomis primary caregiver in the last six months of her life. Abbys little daughter, Shiloh, age 3, climbed up and sat on the hospital bed, fetched tissues, shared her lunch with her, and was often found curled up next to her great-grandmother, both sound asleep while Tom & Jerry cartoons played on the television. She was also thrilled that Abby is expecting a baby boy, Silas, to be born in January. She also is survived by her niece, Doya Cole, and children Cody and Allison Cole, as well as a great many nieces and nephews, who loved their Aunt Naomi, and stayed in touch with her over the years.
Whether she was in a one-room schoolhouse in Yuma, Colorado, attending Bethany Nazarene College, later Southern Nazarene University, in the late fifties, or playing piano accompaniment so Deborah could sing, she demonstrated her love of the Lord without saying a word! Whether she was playing the piano while Betty Bloomer played the organ, or eventually becoming the church organist herself, everyone knew there was something wonderful about her. Being church secretary for many years and publishing the church newsletter were some of her happiest times.
Naomi Walker was an amazing woman! She was Grandma to a whole host of kids over the years, from her own, to all the extra kids, hanging around to get a dose of her encouragement and, of course, her Ramen Noodles! She had a quiet strength about her and always recognized the potential good in everyone. She had grace, dignity and a wonderful sense of humor! She is already missed greatly by her family and friends. But the lessons she taught, and the music she played will ring in their spirits forever! Her beautiful smile and gentle ways are etched on their hearts, until they meet in Glory, where she is, no doubt, dancing on air! It is never really goodbye! Until we meet again!
