Obituary

Nancy Jane Sides Miller went to be with the Lord on March 30, 2018. Nancy was born November 15, 1951 in Kansas City, MO to Wilbur E. Sides and Virginia R. Hammer. Nancy gave her heart to the Lord at a young age and felt a call to missions as a young girl. She had a desire to follow the Lord that never waned throughout her teen and young adult years. She attended Bethany Nazarene College where she met and married George Miller in 1971. Children soon followed and Nancy, putting aside her college education for a time, began her honored role as mother to Gloria and Greg. After George graduated from Bethany Nazarene, the family moved to Muskogee where they joined the Gideons International, an organization that would influence their lives for years to come. After a short time, another move took the family to Carnegie, OK where Geoff and Gary were born. Nancy and George were active as a team in the ministries of the Nazarene church in Carnegie. Over the course of their 16 years there, they taught Sunday school, directed the Caravan program, taught childrens church, were active with NMI, and led childrens and teen quizzing. Nancy has always had a heart for education. They started Victory Christian School to provide a Christian education for her children and others. In 1987, the door opened for them to fulfill their lifelong dream of going to the Mission Field. For two months they served in the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial Hospital in Manzini Swaziland. This short-term trip reaffirmed the call to full time missions for both George and Nancy. In 1989, they were assigned as full-time missionaries to the Nazarene Hospital in Kudjip, Papua New Guinea. Nancy used her skills serving in a community of missionaries on the field in PNG. She fixed sewing machines and taught sewing lessons, taught pastors wives, homeschooled her children, and supported the mission in numerous untold ways. She and George served in PNG for 10 years. In 1999, George and Nancy were assigned to Honiara, Solomon Islands, where she finished homeschooling her children. That task completed, she decided to finish her own schooling and completed her bachelors in Christian Education from Nazarene Bible College. She served as a teacher and principal at the Zion Christian Academy training teachers and constantly pushing to help students find success. She also taught Bible college classes for the Solomon Islands Campus of South Pacific Nazarene Theological College, passing on her years of wisdom to train pastors for ministry. In 2014, George and Nancy were assigned one year at the Philippine Nazarene College in La Trinidad, Philippines. While there Nancy had several health issues that impacted her ability to teach, but she made friends and loved on students, and they loved on her. George and Nancy retired from the Mission field in 2015 and have since spent their time enjoying grandchildren, family and friends. She is survived by her husband, George M. Miller of Bethany, OK, her Mother, Virginia Sides, and one daughter and three sons; Gloria and Scott Nelson, Greg and Wendy Miller, Geoffrey and Churie Miller, and Gary and Beth Miller. She is also survived by two brothers, Don and Linda Sides, and Chris and Sonia Sides, and fifteen grandchildren.
