Fishers, IN Morris Lavaughn ("Von") White passed away peacefully on February 13th with his family at his side. He was born July 31, 1928 in Mobeetie, TX to Robert Clarence White Sr and Mavis (ne Morris) White. Von spent many summers as a young boy with beloved grandparents John Donelson White and Margaret Catherine (Kinsey) White. His father Robert died from a work-related accident when Von was 15 years old, leaving Von and his older siblings to help care for Mavis and the younger children during very difficult times in the rural 1940s Texas panhandle.
Though he rarely spoke of it, Von was a decorated World War II veteran, having enlisted just after graduating high school. During his service, he was deployed to the 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division in Korea and remained on active duty in-country until 1948 in signal operations. He qualified at the highest level Expert in marksmanship. In 1954, Von completed a Bachelor of Business Administration from what is now Texas A&M University and began a lifelong career in corporate finance. While working at the Kerr-McGee corporation in Oklahoma City, Von met Linda Kaye Richards, who would become his soulmate and wife of 40 years.
He is survived by daughter, Debra Anne Weir; son, Kenneth White and daughter-in-law, Stacy (Callaway) White; daughter-in-law, Judy (Goldsmith) White; four grandchildren, Joshua Weir, Jonathan Weir, Sydney White and Sophia White; and three great-grandchildren, Cameron Lavaughn White, Aubrey Elle Weir, and Luke Oliver Weir. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda; son, Bud Russell White; grandson, Dustin White; brothers, Robert Clarence White Jr, Weldon Edward White, John Clyde White and John Nelson White; and sisters, Eula Eileen White and Ada Catherine White.
Von was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and was very active in the community, coaching little league and volunteering at the Oklahoma City 89ers baseball team. He supported several local children's charities and veterans organizations. A lifelong outdoors enthusiast, he loved hunting, motorbiking, and golfing. Von spent the better part of 20 years organizing corporate and independent sports tournaments across the state, actively mentoring and coaching younger players and tirelessly fundraising for youth scholarships. For his work and dedication, he was a recipient of the Dean A McGee Sportsmanship Trophy, something he considered a lifetime accomplishment. Morris White was a kind, selfless, decent man. By any measure, he lived a rich and satisfying life. Pop, you will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew you.
