Mervel
Coil
Nov 13, 1939 — Apr 24, 2025
Coil was born on November 13, 1939, in Sioux City, Iowa to his parents, Karl and Edith Coil. He departed this life on Thursday, April 24, 2025, due to complications of severe pneumonia and pulmonary fibrosis. He was 85 years old.
Merv was married to Carol Coil on March 13, 1960. They had been married for 57 years when she passed away in June, 2017. Mom was the love of his life, and as we discovered after she passed, was the one who put that twinkle in his eye. We take comfort in knowing they are together again.
Merv was also preceded in death by his parents, Edith and Karl Coil; and siblings, Loma, Dwight, and Karlene.
He is survived by his children, Tim Coil (Verla) and Sandy Ferrell (Craig); grandchildren, Sara, Connor, Madison, Spencer, Regan, Katrina, Sawyer, Lindsey, and Jamie; great-grandchildren, Wade, Sam, Cole, and Evie; and sister, Gigi Gilroy.
We, his family, will be forever grateful for his encouragement and advice as well as the example he set on how to live a life of meaning and purpose. He was intelligent, hardworking, strong, and quick-witted.
Merv enjoyed a successful career with the Internal Revenue Service, living in Washington, New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, and Texas before finally making it to Oklahoma where he spent the last forty plus years. He began a second career in 1995, Coil & Associates, a tax consulting and tax preparation firm. He retired in 2016.
Merv was a Christ follower who volunteered at his church and went on numerous mission trips to Mexico and most recently, New Mexico.
Merv's happy place was on the back of a horse or reading a book. We know he is resting easily as he rides the heavenly trails.
