Melva Marie Young, 94, lovingly known as "Mema," died October 25, 2022 in Oklahoma City. Melva was a longtime, active member of Village Baptist Church and enjoyed singing in the PrimeTime Choir and serving as the cashier for Wednesday night dinners. She was a proud member of the Republican Womens Club, the Red Hat Society, book club, and the VFW at Tenkiller. She loved being at the lake house at Lake Tenkiller and enjoyed games of cards and dominos. Her greatest love was her family and spending time with her great-granddaughters reading books. Melva was born June 18, 1928 in Agra, OK to Arthur and Edna Lula (Maddox) Chittum. Melva was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Nancy Diane; husband, Jack "Papa" Young; sisters, Lura Chittum Bell, and Arlene Chittum Treece; brother, Arva Dale Chittum; and daughter, Nancy Ann Tennant. Survivors include her daughter and beloved son-in-law, Karen Griffin and husband Tommy; sons, Rick Young and wife Linda, Danny Young and wife Cindy; son-in-law, Raymond Tennant; grandchildren, Diane Griffin Salmons and husband Jim, Christi Young Galbraith and husband Alan, Shelly Allenby and husband Justin, Jessica, Blake and wife Shauna, Barrett and wife McKenzie, Tonya, Jonathan and wife Cheryl, Andrea and husband John; great-grandchildren, Gabriella Marie, Giuliana Margaret, Genevieve Myla, Connor, Lucas, Landon, Maxfield, Dean, Charlie, Rex, Cierra, Tommy, Draven, and Isaac; great-great-granddaughter, Ezra; numerous nieces and nephews and many other extended family members and friends. Viewing will be Sunday, 11am-8pm, with family present from 2-4pm at Mercer-Adams. Services will be Tuesday, November 1, 10:00am at Village Baptist Church with interment in Mathewson Cemetery, Piedmont, OK. .
