Obituary

Melba Lee Eppler Gibbons made her journey to Heaven on Thursday, October 6, 2016. Her final days were spent surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who loved her beyond measure. Melba was born on March 13, 1923 to James and Menta Eppler in Ada, OK. She attended Oakman and Byng Schools. While in high school, she played basketball for Oklahoma's own Bertha Frank Teague. Melba and her sister Margurite attended Bertha's induction to the National Basketball Hall of Fame in 1985. On August 22, 1939 she married the love of her life, Joe C. Gibbons. They were married for 42 years before his death in 1981. Melba had a flair for fashion. She was an employee at Street's for many years and loved helping women enhance their wardrobes. She retired from Street's to take care of her great grandchildren. She was an amazing cook, amateur tennis player and confidant to all generations of grandchildren! Melba was preceded in death by her parents; 10 brothers and sisters; her husband, Joe; daughter, Linda Jo Burch and granddaughters, Kimberly Ann Gibbons and Kari Jo Gibbons. She is survived by her sister, Wanda Sue Summers; daughter, Carla Evans and husband Joe; and sons, Gary Gibbons and wife Debra, Gene Gibbons and wife Virginia. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lisa Bradley, Lori Colson, Kevin Gibbons and his wife Brandi, Gina Stephens and husband Tray, Stacy Khaki and husband K.C., Matthew Gibbons and wife Sara, Micah Gibbons and wife Stacey and Courtney Grandt and husband Matt. She is survived by her great grandchildren, Anslee Gibbons, Makenzie Johnson, Christian Stephens, Bryce Johnson, Jacob Khaki, Regan Stephens, Kara Gibbons and Jon Marc Stephens and two great-great grandsons, Jonah and Barrett and a host of nieces and nephews. Services and internment for Melba will be on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, 11:00am at Ada Memorial Cemetery, Ada Oklahoma.
