Max Lynn Green, beloved husband and father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law & friend went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012. He was a 3rd generation Oklahoman whose grandfather made the Land Run of Cherokee Strip/Outlet in 1893. Max was born Dec. 2, 1931 in Woodward, OK. He was tenth of eleven children.
Max attended OU one year; then transferred to SNU. Max was drafted in the Army in 1953. After basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, he was shipped to Germany. He graduated from Officer Candidate School in 1957. He served tours of duty at Fort Sill, Fort Bliss, Alaska and Korea. He left the service after serving in Vietnam.
Max worked for Defense Contract Administration until he retired in 1987. His retirement was spent playing golf, working at the golf course, church work, enjoying his family, traveling, and doing volunteer work. He was coordinator for the VITA program at OKC Community College (the largest VITA site in OK) for several years where he prepared tax returns for free.
He officiated sports for 26 years. Most of his officiating was at the high school level, but included some collegiate basketball, and softball at the national level. He was the president of the OKC All Sports Officials Association 1974-77; served as ASA Umpire in Chief for metro OKC, and was honored in the OKC Metro Hall of Fame on 8/9/1988.
Kathryn & Max were married 41 years, and kept busy enjoying church, family and friends. Max stayed busy in his church, teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir and holding several positions of responsibility. His greatest enjoyment in life was his family and serving his Lord. He will always be remembered as a loving, honest, hardworking, compassionate, giving person and his willingness to serve his Lord and share the word of God. If he was remembered for anything, his wish was that it be he was dependable. His family and friends will dearly miss him.
