Max M. Alexander, a man of prayer, met his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 11, 2010. He was born September 28, 1930, to Charles E. and Emma Scheller Alexander in Manitou, OK. He graduated from Port High School in 1949. Accepting Gods call to the ministry, Max received his Bachelor of Music degree from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1953 and graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Music degree in 1955. He married the love of his life, JoAnna Matheson, on January 26, 1951. He was member of the Bison Glee Club at OBU and the Singing Churchmen of Oklahoma. Max began his ministry the week after his marriage and celebrated 59 years of marriage and ministry including 9 years at Park Hill Baptist Church in North Little Rock, Arkansas and 43 years at Putnam City Baptist Church in OKC. He was a music minister for 25 years; then God transitioned him to Minister of Pastoral Care. Max was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife JoAnna, daughter Mary Pugh of OKC, son David Alexander of Dallas, TX, grandsons Tyler Pugh and Douglas Alexander and wife Tamela, and granddaughter Nikki Pugh. Max was a loving and thoughtful husband, father and grandfather; he was anticipating the birth of his first great-grandchild, Addison Emma Alexander, in October. He enjoyed helping his grandsons with their baseball, basketball, and football and was thrilled to lead a team prayer when he was allowed to do so. Max loved his Lord Jesus wholeheartedly and devoted his life to serving others. His youth groups have developed teachers, college professors, doctors, missionaries, and ministers. He encouraged people to read through the Bible every year and pray daily. He was committed to helping others have a personal relationship with Jesus. He conducted 967 funerals in the 43 years he served at Putnam City Baptist Church. He began a Prison Ministry, visiting the OK County Jail on Wednesday mornings, and supplying Experiencing God books and other study materials to prisons all over the state. He requested that memorials be made to the Prison Ministry of Putnam City Baptist Church.
Viewing will be Friday, 8am-9pm with the family receiving guests from 6-8pm at Mercer-Adams. Services will be Saturday, May 15, 10:00am at Putnam City Baptist Church with interment in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
