Mavis Hessel (Martin) Koonce, 94, of Bethany, OK, went to heaven to be with Jesus on January 25, 2015. She was "looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ," Titus 2:13. She was born November 5, 1920 in Center, CO to Robert and Ola (Peachee) Martin. She graduated from Harrah High School, where she met the love of her life, Matthew H. Koonce, whom she married on Oct. 3, 1940 in Harrah, OK. They were married for 52 wonderful years until his passing in 1993. She was a faithful and devoted wife, mother and Nanny. Mavis enjoyed being a minister's wife and praying for everyone she met. She enjoyed quilting, and was also a self-taught pianist and Sunday school teacher for many years. Preceded in death by her parents, brother, sister, and beloved husband, Matthew, she is survived by her son, Larry Duane and his wife Cynthia; 3 grandchildren, Kori Bussert and husband Tod, Deke Koonce and wife Amy, and Kari Kerr and husband Mike, all of OKC; 9 great-grandchildren, Kami, Kelsi and Kylie Bussert, Tyler, Justin, Brandon and Lauren Koonce, Aidan and Harrison Kerr; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Viewing will be Tuesday, 9am-9pm, with family present from 6-8pm at Mercer-Adams. Services will be Wednesday, January 28, 2:00pm at First Baptist Church of Bethany with interment in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the FBC Bethany Lottie Moon offering.
