Obituary

Maurine Cobb Jones, "Grandma," 88, went to be with the Lord on December 13, 2025, in the presence of her family. Maurine entered this world on July 27, 1937, in Lexington, KY, born to Stanley and Gracie Allen Cobb.

Maurine grew up in the Kentucky countryside with her mom, dad, and two sisters, Pauline and Gracie (Boochie). She talked fondly of some experiences on the farm, but typically shared stories of "all work and no play" and a lifelong fear of chickens - roosters specifically. Her family eventually moved into town and where she graduated in 1955 from Wilmore High School.

Maurine met her first husband, William "Billy" Nooe, and married in 1955 and had two children, Karen and Bobby. Tragically, Billy passed away in 1960 leaving her and her two kids, but she was bound and determined to keep her family together, doing everything in her power to make that happen. She knew God was always with them, guiding them and leading their path.

Through a little bit of divine providence and a church lady, Maurine met and soon married J.R. Jones, also a widower, in 1962 and gained not only a supportive husband, but two wonderful children, Pam and Rick Jones. Together, they became a family of 6 and lived in Lexington until the family moved to Austin, TX, in 1967. They settled into life in Austin and joined Grace Nazarene Church where they were active for almost 40 years.

After the kids left home, Maurine and JR ventured into a new era of their lives - hobbies, friends, and traveling! Maurine loved to sew and soon developed a space in her house into her "sewing room" where she created many, many things - from matching dresses for all her granddaughters to overnight bags and incredible quilts. Her knowledge and love of all things Bernina was unmatched. Maurine loved to bake, traveling with her sourdough starter - that JR faithfully took care of - and always having pound cake and sausage bread in her freezer for us (which we still can't manage to make like she did). Maurine and JR began a second career as tour guide and travel companions with their friend and travel guide, Judy Satcher, and her travel company, Follow Your Dreams Tour. Together they traveled all over the country enjoying the trips and making many friends. Back in Austin, Maurine also loved to volunteer to usher at the Symphony and was able to attend many shows at the Paramount and the Long Center in downtown Austin.

In 2011, Maurine and JR moved to Oklahoma City to be closer to family. Maurine continued to sew and make many friends in her neighborhood. She enjoyed time with two of her granddaughters, Hannah and Abbie, teaching Hannah to use a sewing machine and spending time with her great-grandson, Ellis, bringing him donuts while Karen would watch him before he was in school. She moved to Southern Plaza in Bethany, OK, in 2021 and settled into life there. She met several friends and enjoyed playing dominoes with them on a regular basis. For many years, Maurine joined Friday pizza night with Karen and her family, always specifically requesting the pizza with the jalapenos or the combination of mushrooms, onions, and olives. Grandma loved her time with her family, especially her kids and her grandkids, and her beloved weenie dog, Elvis.

Maurine was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, husband, and son, Rick Jones. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Ken Munday and Karen and Scott Dedmon; son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Luanne Nooe; daughter-in-law, Linda Jones; her 10 grandkids, Aaron Jones, Ryan Jones, Brendan Jones, Maegen Munday, Jamie Raymond, Jesi Munday, Katie Keeney, Austin Nooe, Hannah Barnes and Abbie Vaughan; and her 14 great-grandkids.

A memorial service for Maurine will be held on Saturday, January 17, 11:00am at the Mausoleum Chapel of Resurrection Memorial Cemetery in Oklahoma City, OK.
