Obituary

Maurine graduated from Bethany-Peniel College (now Southern Nazarene University) and received an MA degree in English from Oklahoma State University, a MLS degree in Library Science from Oklahoma University and an Honorary Doctor of Letters Degree from Mid-America Nazarene University. She taught English in Mutual, Okla., at Bethany Nazarene College and at Mid-America Nazarene College. She also served as the first Director of the library at Mid-America Nazarene College. At her retirement in 1986, the Technical Services Department in the new Mabee Library was named in her honor. After retiring, she served as a missionary on temporary assignment at European Nazarene College in Switzerland/Germany for five years. She later volunteered in Nazarene Bible School libraries in Trinidad, Swaziland, England, and the Indian Bible College in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Maurine also set up a field library for the Regional Office in Lisbon, Portugal. Later she helped to develop a library in Jamaica located at the District Center for the Church of the Nazarene in Mandeville, Jamaica. Off and on for two years, she taught English as a Second Language with the Educational and Cultural Interactions Institute in Oklahoma City. Maurine has faithfully served as Librarian at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene from 1998 until the closure of the library in 2014. She has been a member of this church as well as ARMMS (an Association of Retired Ministers and Missionaries), Academy of Senior Professionals and three honor societies. Maurine was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. And Mrs. L.H. Dickerson, brothers Artis Dickerson and Darrell Dickerson, and her sister, Marjorie Dickerson Shellenberger. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Dr. Elmer B. Shellenberger; nephews, Dr. Kent Shellenberger and wife Stephanie, Ed Dickerson and wife Dixie, Milton Dickerson and wife Diane, and Don Dickerson; by nieces, Rev. Susie Shellenberger and Dr. Lindakay Rees and husband Nevon; great-nephews, Scott, Brett and Matt Shellenberger; and her beloved cousins, Grant and Evelyn Keeton. The family thanks the faithful caregivers, Kathy Bower and Southern Plaza, Valir Hospice and Heritage Point. Maurine would want to also extend her gratitude to her many friends in Bethany, Okla., and in Switzerland.
