OBITUARY OF MARY LOUISE WHITEHEAD Mary Louise Whitehead, 88, passed away on March 26, 2023, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Born October 14, 1934, in Okemah, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Lawrence Earl and Mary (Blanton) Speir and the youngest of nine children five girls and four boys all of whom preceded her in death. She died as a resident of Northhaven Place in Oklahoma City. Mary met her future husband, Edwin Lee Whitehead, while they were both living in Odessa, Texas. The couple married on New Years Eve, 1952, in Odessa, Texas, and together had three children, all of whom are still living. Marys husband died in 2000. Survivors include Jeanne Miller, 69, and her husband, George Miller, of Carnegie, Oklahoma; Joel Whitehead, 66, and husband Perry Greene, of Chicago, Illinois; and Paul Whitehead, 53, and his wife, Jessica Manzione-Whitehead, of St. Petersburg, Florida. Other survivors include 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, although many others called her Grandma Mary and GIGI. Burial will be in the family plot at Bethany Cemetery, in Bethany, Oklahoma. In lieu of a funeral service, a celebration service honoring Marys life will be held at the First Nazarene Church in Carnegie, Oklahoma, on April 15, 2023 at 10am. A more formal memorial service will follow on July 1, 2023 in Oklahoma City. Mary worked as a licensed practical nurse in the Birthplace and Birthing Center at Mercy Hospital, in Oklahoma City, for 34 years. She loved being around newborns and their parents; she even cared for newborn children of mothers who she had earlier helped birth. A long-time member of Crestwood Baptist Church, in Oklahoma City, Mary was a loving Christian mother, grandmother and great grandmother (Gigi) and is remembered by friends as a caring and kind woman who daily expressed her faith by how she treated others.
