Mary Alice (Traylor) Watson was born on her family's farm southwest of Drummond, OK, on October 15, 1925 to Edward C. and Mabel N. (Liebhart) Traylor. She attended one-room schools in the area and graduated from Drummond High School as valedictorian. While a student at Oklahoma A & M College in Stillwater, she met Jim Watson, an Air Force cadet in basic training at the college, on a blind date. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage and raised three children. Mary was a life-long teacher, not only in the classroom, but in the way she lived her life. She taught school in Walsenburg, CO on an emergency training certificate during World War II. She taught third grade at Putnam City Central and was honored as Teacher of the Year in 1981-82. She was known for encouraging reading skills in her students and instilled a life-long love of reading in her children and many students. After her retirement, she volunteered at Coronado Heights Elementary School and shared her sewing and knitting talents with several charities. She was a long-time member of Springdale Baptist Church. Mary enjoyed simple pleasures in life like spending time with Jim at their cabin at Lake Eufaula and her grandchildren as they grew up. She was an accomplished gardener; roses were her specialty. Many lucky dogs enjoyed being loved and spoiled by Mary. Mary's life was guided by Christian values, and she faced life's challenges with the grace of great faith, strength and courage. We will remember her for her gentle, loving spirit, subtle humor and behind-the-scenes acts of kindness, encouragement and generosity. Mary is survived by her daughter, Linda Allen and husband Don of Drummond; daughter, Marilyn Tarron of Oklahoma City; son, David and wife Shelly of Choctaw; grandchildren, Scott Allen and wife Stephanie of Overland Park, KS, Todd Allen of Stillwater, Josh Watson and wife Jessica of Midwest City and Madison Watson of Choctaw. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Olive Traylor, and three nieces. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim, son-in-law, Chuck Tarron, brother, Duane Traylor and niece, Debbie Traylor. Mary left this life on September 4, but the impact of her faith, life lessons and values continues in her children, grandchildren and the many lives she touched. Viewing will be Monday, September 8, 9am-9pm, at Mercer-Adams with private family services and burial on Tuesday.
