Obituary

Mary Maxine Baldwin Walkup passed away August 9, 2013 in her home. She was born May 9, 1917 in Wister, Oklahoma. Her parents were Rev. George Frank and Alma Della Baldwin. She was one of 13 children. As a child, Maxine moved with her family to several Oklahoma towns as her father was called to pastor Nazarene churches, finally settling in Bethany. Maxine graduated from Bethany High School. She was in the Honor Society and also excelled in speech and debate. She attended Bethany-Peniel College (now Southern Nazarene University). She met Cecil Glen Walkup and they were married November 13, 1936. The couple was married for 64 years and had 6 children, 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Maxine was a wonderful mother and grandmother and a fabulous cook. She raised her children to love God and country. Maxine and Cecil opened their own real estate company and Maxine became a successful broker. She was also instrumental in helping one of her sons start a new business, Quick Haul. Maxine was active in the Tri City Republican Women's Club. She and Cecil were members for 45 years of Warr Acres Nazarene Church. After it closed, Maxine became a member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil; brothers, Marvin Baldwin of OKC, Ocie Baldwin of Bartlesville, Leo Baldwin of Chico, California, and Gary Baldwin of OKC; sisters, Anna Brandon of Bartlesville, Cecile Key of Edmond, Viola Roberts of Memphis, TN, Rowena Eyestone of OKC, and Dorothy Johnston of Plano, TX. She is survived by her brother, Frank Baldwin of Piedmont. Mary is also survived by children, Glen Walkup and wife Cinda, Amarillo, TX, Bruce Walkup and wife Mary, OKC, Don Walkup and wife Jeanette, OKC, Mary Smith and husband Dr. Lee Smith, Bethany, Steve Walkup and wife Joanne, OKC, and Linda Rankin. Her grandchildren are: Sherri Kane, Spring Hill, TN, Michael Allen Walkup, Bethany, Tommy Walkup, Ft. Collins, CO, Janie Vincent, Amarillo, TX, Julie Walkup, Dallas TX, Stephen Glen Walkup, Austin, TX, Elena Walkup and James Walkup, OKC, Brian Smith, Bethany, Rob Smith, Boston, MA, Michael Andrew Walkup and Matthew Walkup, OKC, Ryan Rankin, Dallas, TX, and Hillary Perkins, OKC. Great-grandchildren are Katie and Stephen Kane, Spring Hill, TN, Mary Caroline, Will and Elizabeth Vincent, Amarillo, TX, Matthew, Kimber, Corbin and Jordan Walkup, OKC, Alex and Sophia Walkup, Bethany, Michael Anthony, Jacksen, Truman and Abigail, Ft. Collins, CO; and Noah Perkins, 1 month, OKC. Maxine also had numerous nieces and nephews as well as many lifelong friends. We are rejoicing her reuniting with loved ones in heaven. Viewing will be held at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 from 9am-9pm with the family present from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 10:00am at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, Chapel in the Round.
