Obituary

Mary Jean (Periman) Walizer Mary Jean Walizer of OKC was called home by her Lord, January 13, 2017. She was born in Joplin, MO on May 5, 1930 to Otto E. and Ethlyn Periman. She grew up in Pittsburg, KS where her parents owned an ice plant and later an appliance store. She graduated from Pittsburg High School and then attended Kansas State Teachers College (now Pittsburg State Univ.) where she met her husband-to-be, Jim Walizer. They were married June 30, 1950 and enjoyed 66 years together. In their early years, she taught elementary school in Rolla, MO while Jim completed his degree in Chemical Engineering at the Missouri School of Mines (now Univ. of MO at Rolla). They lived in several locations in Oklahoma, Illinois, Texas, Ohio, and Pennsylvania during Jims 31-year career in the oil industry. While living in Ponca City, OK, she very much enjoyed teaching a Christian Kindergarten sponsored by St. Pauls Methodist Church. While living in Nederland, TX, she finished her B.S. in Education at Lamar Univ. in Beaumont, TX. When Jim elected early retirement from Gulf Oil Research and Development in Pittsburgh, PA, they moved to Oklahoma City where their children and grandchildren live. She was blessed with many happy years with her loving family nearby. Mary Jean is survived by her husband, Jim, of the home; daughter, Jamie Hite and husband Jay; grandchildren, Julie Hite Davidson and husband Gary, great-granddaughter, Zion Hope Davidson and great-grandson, Zane Michael Davidson; John Michael Hite; Jenni Jimerson, great-grandson, Brayden Jimerson, great-granddaughter, Caydence Elizabeth Jimerson; son, Jeff Walizer and wife Marita; grandchildren, Jessica Kennedy and husband Evan, Sarah and Sean Walizer; sister-in-law, Nancy Periman; nieces, nephews, and numerous extended family members and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents and brother, Charles E. Periman. Mary Jean was an active member of the Church wherever they lived and, in Oklahoma City, very much cherished being a member of Village Baptist and Quail Springs Baptist Churches, loving the fellowship of her Christian friends there. She also enjoyed various social organizations and art and craft classes with her friends. She will be very much missed by her family and friends as she loved them all dearly.
