Mary Elizabeth Unruh, 92, affectionately known as "The Shoe Lady" by the generations of customers she served, died September 13, 2019 in Bethany. She was born April 2, 1927 in Renfrow, OK to George Joseph and Hazel Vern (Greenman) Kline. She married Walton A. Unruh on June 30, 1946 in Enid, OK. She first retired from the former Shoe Box shoe store and, at age 85, retired from SAS shoe store. Mary was a charter member of the former Western Oaks Mennonite Brethren Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Connie Sue; and two sisters, Georgia Shoemaker and Joan Schmidt. Survivors include 2 daughters, Kathleen Duden and husband Rick of Yukon, OK; and Peggy Unruh and husband Jules C. Smith of Las Vegas, NV; son, Gregg Unruh and wife Debbie of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Beth, David, Dustin, Heather and Morgen; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mary, known as being sweet, kind and generous all her life, will be fondly remembered by all those she touched.
Viewing will be Monday, 9am-9pm, with family present from 6-8pm at Mercer-Adams. Graveside service will be Tuesday, September 17, 10:30am at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
