Obituary

Mary Katherine "Kathy" Savage, a long-time resident of Bethany, OK, was born on October 30, 1932 in Frederick, OK, to Viola Lucille Minyard Savage and Roy Elbert Savage. She passed from this life on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at 12:40 p.m. in Oklahoma City after a period of declining health at the age of 87. Kathys father worked for the Santa Fe railroad which led them to Amarillo, Texas where she graduated from high school in 1951. She went to work for Woolworth Department Store, then she went to work for the Veterans Administration in Amarillo and continued working for them after moving to Oklahoma City. She retired in December of 1993 from the canteen at the VA Hospital in Oklahoma City. "Kat", as the family referred to her, was devoted to caring for her father, then her mother, and both sisters, Elizabeth of the home and her oldest sister, Lucille. She was the family historian and shared many, many stories about relatives over the years. Kat loved to travel whenever she could. She traveled to Europe with her nieces, Linda and Vickie. She enjoyed visiting Niagara Falls, New York City, Washington D.C., Florida, and many other states. She enjoyed going to the beach as well as deer camp in Eastern Oklahoma with her cousin, Frankie. She enjoyed camping at Palo Duro Canyon with her nieces and nephews. She loved hosting sleepovers with her great nieces and nephews. Her last big trip was to Kentucky to cheer for her great, great nephew, Preston, at the National Archery Tournament. She attended the livestock show in Wynnewood this past winter to watch her great, great nieces and nephews show their pigs. Kat used to host the Miss America pageant at her house annually for her nieces and nephews, complete with popcorn. She loved to read and share her books with others. She was Kathy to her friends and neighbors. She loved the block where she lived for so many years and could be seen going for daily walks in her neighborhood for many, many years. Kat was a member of the Reflections Church. She was faithful to tithe and would pray for people and follow-up with phone calls. She loved camp meetings where the preacher "preached" and did not just read out of the bible. Aunt Kat was the family photographer. She always had her camera ready and has trunks of photographs from almost every event in her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Viola Savage, her brother, Elbert Savage, her two sisters, Lucille Thompson and Elizabeth "Libby" Savage, two nephews, Preston Thompson and Steve Savage. She is survived by her nephews, Ronnie Savage of Lexington, TN (wife Lavada), Eddie Thompson of Wynnewood, OK (wife Christy), nieces, Paula Slover of Oklahoma City, OK , Carol Beaver, Linda Thompson, and Vickie Thompson, all of Bethany, OK. She is also survived and loved by her 12 great nieces and nephews along with many, many great, great nieces, and nephews. She will be missed by them all.
