Mary Elizabeth Rickey, born February 6, 1915 in Vaughn, New Mexico to Gillian Bechtol and Jewell Weaver, left this earthy life on August 8, 2010 at the age of 95. She was a beautiful and classy lady who led a full and diverse life. After the death of her mother when she was eight, Elizabeth moved to Haskell, Texas and was raised by her grandmother whom she credited for all the important things she learned in life. She was an expert seamstress, making all her childrens clothes from youth through adulthood. She was equally comfortable riding a horse, shooting a gun or driving a load of cattle to a sale. She was a businesswoman, a beautician, and a cosmetologist. As the wife of a very successful ranch foreman, Elizabeth made homes in Texas, California, Illinois and other states and was a true partner in the business and life she and Ben Rickey had built. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Rogers Gilstrap and Ben Rickey, and her three children, Beverly LAbbe, Madalin Schoenhals and James Gilstrap. She is survived by grandchildren: Maria LAbbe, Elise (Ted) Johnstone, Stephan Gilstrap, and Bradley Gilstrap; daughter-in-law Sandra Gilstrap; and 3 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday, 4-7pm with funeral services Friday, August 13, 2:00pm, both at Mercer-Adams, Bethany, Oklahoma. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery.
