Ding Dong, Avon Calling!...For 58 years! Mary Rachel (Kelly) Pfeil was born to Ulrich Leo Kelly and Emma Ruth (Ninemire) Kelly on February 21, 1919 in McLoud, Oklahoma. She had an older brother, Earnest Kelly, and younger sister, Viola Kelly Busbee. She graduated from McLoud High School and began working at W.T. Grants department store in OKC, where she met and later married Raymond Paul Pfeil, who had arrived from Tamaqua, PA. While Paul was in Europe during WWII, she worked at various jobs including Armour Meats and Sunshine Crackers. After WWII, they had two beautiful daughters, Paulette Irene in 1946 and Lynda Ruth in 1950. Mary began her Avon career in 1952, going door to door selling Avon products, making many friends of her customers, and winning many awards including her first trip to Hawaii. Mary is lovingly called Great-Grandma Mary Pfeil, the Avon Lady by her great-grandchildren. She was active in her churches, first with Penn Avenue Christian Church, then Putnam City Christian Church, and lastly at Western Oaks Christian Church where she was an Elder Emeritus. In 1978, Mary took on the responsibility of organizing and managing the Mobile Meal Program at Western Oaks Christian Church for 30 years. Mary and Paul were busy retiring with camping and fishing trips throughout OK, MO, TX and CO. They enjoyed 10 more trips to Hawaii, 4 European trips and 4 Caribbean cruises. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, sister, husband Paul, daughter Paulette Nelson and grandson Brent Duclos. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Jim Gervais; three grandchildren, Brian Duclos, Melissa Duclos Lueninghoener, and Justin Gervais; 12 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She rang her last doorbell, after her 91 year journey, on January 8th, being loved by her entire family. There will be a visitation with the family, Wednesday, from 6-8pm at Mercer-Adams. Services will be held at Mercer-Adams Chapel on Thursday, January 13th at 2pm with interment beside her beloved Paul at Memorial Park Cemetery, OKC. Donations may be made to the Mobile Meals program at Western Oaks Christian Church.
