Mary Alice Smith-Payne, Bethany, went to be with the Lord early Tuesday morning, December 16, at the age of 91. She was born October 14, 1917, the daughter of Laffatte and Pluma Wendling of Rockdale, Texas. She attended school at Hawkins in Grady County. She was a faithful member of the Putnam City Baptist Church and worked many years in the nursery and with the young people. She retired from Farmers Union Insurance in January 1980. She was preceded in death by both parents, her husband of 40 years, Harry B. Smith, and husband Floyd Payne, two brothers Roscoe and Theodore Wendling, both from Chickasha. She is survived by her daughter, Mary E. Neal, Bethany; son, H. Kirby Smith and wife Kay, Edmond; step daughters, Pat Crosby, San Jose, California, and Marcella Swensson, Casper, Wyoming. She has six grandchildren: Lessie Barnes, Robert Neal, Denise Sandavol, Keri Smith, Kirby S. Smith, and Kas Smith. She also has eight great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews, and will be missed by all of her family and friends. Services will be held on Friday, December 19, 2008, 12:30 PM, at Mercer Adams Funeral Home, 3925 N. Asbury in Bethany. Pastor Max Alexander from Putnam City Baptist Church will officiate. Family request, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Lottie Moon Mission Offering at Putnam City Baptist Church, 11401 N. Rockwell, Oklahoma City, 73162. There will be a time for friends and family to gather for fellowship on Friday from 12-12:30PM at the Mercer Adams Funeral Home.
