Mary Jean (Goins) McGrady was born to Jim and Ada Clary Goins on February 15, 1923 in their home on the family farm near Cottondale, Alabama. She was the 8th child of 9 siblings. She learned about God and to fear and respect him from her parents. At age 14, she was saved, accepting Christ as her Savior and walking with Him her entire life. She loved to pray for others and her faith sustained her through good and bad times. She graduated from Holt High School in 1942. She chose to leave home and travel to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue Christian higher education at Trevecca Nazarene College. There, she met Paul Judson McGrady. It was love at first sight. They soon married and began a life of pastoral ministry together. In 1967, her husband, Paul, was tragically killed in an automobile accident while serving in public relations for Bethany Nazarene College. Jean then chose to finish her college degree in elementary education and taught 17 years in the Putnam City School District in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In 1987, she was named Teacher of the Year. She has positively impacted many lives and loved to share her faith with others. In retirement, Jean loved spending time at her cabin in Tanglewood Acres, Colorado and traveling to six continents. Jean peacefully met her Savior and reunited with Paul after 49 years as a widow on October 18, 2016 at the age of 93 years, 8 months. She is survived by one daughter, Miriam Bassinger and her husband Johnny; one son, Paul McGrady, Jr. and his wife Dana. She was also blessed with 4 grandchildren, Judson Rowe, Erin Rowe, Chris Ann McGrady, and Garrett McGrady.
