Mary Ruth Jarvis Manners, 97, of Oklahoma City, met Jesus face to face at 6:45am Sunday, June 11, 2017. She was born in Yukon, Oklahoma on October 25, 1919 to parents, James Truly Jarvis and Phebe Rowland. After graduating from Bethany High School, she attended Bethany Peniel College (now Southern Nazarene University), where she met Clarence Manners. They were married in Purcell, Oklahoma on December 28, 1941. At that time, Clarence and Mary were supporting Clarences cousin, who was pastor at the Nazarene Church in Purcell. She supported her husband as a pastors wife for over 40 years, at churches in Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, Colorado, California and Missouri.
Due to his declining health, Clarence and Mary moved back to the Oklahoma City area. Mary began working at Bethany Nazarene College as a housekeeper. She met and befriended many college girls, and had a sweet smile and listening ear for anyone she came in contact with. As one Facebook friend posted Monday morning, "Years ago I worked together with Mary at Bethany Nazarene College (as it was called at that time). Mary was helping me to do things right, when I didnt quite understand English so well yet. Mary was always so patient and peaceful. She was really mostly always smiling. The Kingdom of God was in her heart. I have such a pleasant memory or her." Mary impacted countless lives.
Mary was a lifelong member of the Church of the Nazarene, most recently at New Day Church of the Nazarene in Warr Acres. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School and supporting her husband as they ministered together.
Mary is survived by sons, James (Pansie) Manners, Tom (Jeannie) Manners; daughter, Betty (Mark) Bolerjack; daughter-in-law, Leota Manners; grandchildren, Jim, Mike, Tom, Tabitha, Lauren and Tamara; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clarence, husband, James Shepherd, and son, Daniel.
A celebration memorial will be held at 5:00pm on Tuesday, June 13, at New Day Church of the Nazarene, 5949 N.W. 39th Expressway, with burial immediately following at the Mustang Cemetery.
