Mary Lee Kellogg Lackey, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 6, 2021 at the age of 92. She was born in Sulphur, Oklahoma on March 17, 1928, to Roy Warren Kellogg and Carrie Faye (Smith) Kellogg. She graduated from Sulphur High School and attended East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. She married an incredibly special man, Homer John Lackey, on October 14, 1952, at the First Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. After marrying Homer, Mary lived in Worland, Wyoming, Long Beach, California, and Garland, Texas, before settling in Oklahoma City in 1967, where she resided until her death. She was a member of Putnam City United Methodist Church where she developed many lasting friendships. Her three grandsons brought her incredible joy, and she was always a loving, gentle presence in their lives. She was devoted to her family and her death is a deep sorrow to all of us that remain. Some of Marys hobbies were collecting cookbooks from all over the country (that family reaped the benefits from at dinner time) and taking care of the birds, squirrels and rabbits that frequented her back yard. Needless to say, she did not care much for cats and hawks. Mary also had a special gift that enabled her to minister to those in need, and she spent countless hours on the telephone with women that needed emotional support.
Survivors are her husband of 68 years, Homer, son J. and his wife Karen, grandsons Tanner (Katie and great granddaughter Annie), Jake (Madison) and Grant. Additionally, she is survived by her sister Joyce Reed, nephews Pete and Tom Reed, nieces Susan Pierce (Bo) and Jill Walker (Steven), and their children. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, stepfather Harold Everette Chappell, brother Warren David Kellogg and brother-in-law Paul Reed. She loved them all very much.
Mary believed the following scripture and even though she has passed on we have comfort in knowing she is very much alive. John 11:25 - Jesus said to her, " I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die."
We want to extend a special thanks to Physicians Choice Hospice and Quail Creek Senior Living for their care and support during this difficult time. Also, a very special thanks to Marys dear friend, Mary Amen.
