Obituary

Mary Dow (Redding) Feland (August 11, 1938 January 10, 2023) Mary was born at home in Jesse, Oklahoma on August 11, 1938 to Manda and Dow Redding. She spent her childhood around Wetumpka and Weleetka, Oklahoma. Mary started going to a little Nazarene Church at a young age and became a Christian at thirteen. It wasnt long before her mother and her sister, Mae, started going with her. Mary had that effect on people. Marys family ended up in the oil field in West Texas, where she graduated from high school in Andrews in 1956. Mary was working as a bookkeeper at Forrest Lumber Company when she met a skinny, dark-haired oil field worker named Bill Feland that she just couldnt get enough of. Against the advice of her father (as is often the case with fathers and their daughters), she married Bill on February 27, 1959. From this only marriage, they had 4 children, Sheila Wesley (husband Dale), Karen Lawrence (husband Bruce), Bill Feland (wife Connie), and Stephen (wife Anita). In these kids opinions, no better mother with any greater love for her children has ever existed. She had more patience and grace than anyone could have. When Marys husband, Bill, became a Christian and felt called to preach, Mary took on the special role of being the "pastors wife." Not everyone understands that this calling means taking on the burdens and cares of not only your own family, but the many families that you become intimately involved with in the church communities you pastor. This huge responsibility takes tremendous love, patience, compassion, joy, peace, self-control, and selflessness. Mary loved Jesus, and so she loved people. Everyone around her knew she loved them and prayed for them. Mary lost her Bill in May, 2021 to Covid. She was very ill then, too. After getting out of the hospital, she moved to Hutchinson, KS to live out her days with daughter, Karen and Bruce Lawrence, with brief visits to NM to visit Sheila and Dale. She flourished with Karen, quilting, canning, shopping, and most of all, playing Yahtzee. Mary was happy. Mary went to see her Jesus at 5:20 AM on January 10, 2023 in Hutchinson, Kansas. She was 84 years old. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill; her parents, Manda and Dow Redding; her little sister, Oma Jean; brothers, Sonny and Dickie Redding; and sister, Mae Cowherd. Mary had 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. We believe Mary saw a glimpse of heaven when she held out her hands and said "Master, Master" before she passed. .
