Mary Ellen Smith was 91 years old when she passed away on May 29, 2020 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Her husband of 59 years, Raymond Smith, preceded her on October 27, 2006, at the age of 83, in Gainesville, Texas where they both retired after operating a Hallmark Card Shop for 10 years. Before that, they moved 27 times due to Raymonds job with W.T. Grant Co. Mary Ellen moved to Town Village Audubon Park, Memphis, TN in 2014 where she lived until her passing. She won 3 Halloween Costume contests at Town Village. She won as a clown, Charlie Chaplin, and her best one as Colonel Sanders. In 2015, she was the Welcome Ambassador at Town Village. She really enjoyed greeting and meeting with the new residents. She always looked for the good and did not like the negative. Even when she was sick, she would tell you she was okay or fine if you asked how she was doing. She leaves behind her son, Gary (Sharon) Smith; daughter, Cheryl (Charlie) Berger; 4 granddaughters, Stacy (Kevin) Cavin, Stephanie (Zach) Kincaid, Erika (Matt) Knob, and Amanda (Stephen) Simmons; and 5 great-grandchildren. Mary will be buried in Resurrection Memorial Cemetery in Oklahoma City on June 9, 2020 at 2:00pm. The graveside ceremony may be viewed on Mercer-Adams website shortly following the service.
