Obituary

Mary Catherine (OHern) Collins, a humble servant of the Lord, went to heaven on December 31, 2019 in her home in Bethany, OK. Mary, the oldest of eight siblings, was born in Kansas City, MO on January 7, 1949 to John and Frances Kathryn OHern. Marys father worked in the cattle business and when she was four years old her family moved to Oklahoma City. She had three sisters, Peggy Mize, Patricia Martinez, and Susie OHern, and four brothers, Mike, Johnny, Tommy, and Jimmy. Mary graduated from McGuinness High School and attended Central State University for two years until becoming an American Airlines stewardess, where she enjoyed traveling and living in New York City with her sister Peggy. In 1971 she returned to Oklahoma to marry her college sweetheart, Michael Collins. They were married for 48 years and had four children. Mary was preceded in death by her loving parents and brother, Mike OHern. Her survivors include her loving husband and caregiver, Michael Collins; her daughters Lisa Skinner and husband, Jay, of Edmond, and Julie LaPat and husband, Brian, of Piedmont; her sons Charlie Collins and wife, Amy, of Bethany, and Matthew Collins and wife, Ashleigh, of Piedmont; and twenty-six adored grandchildren, Kaylyn, Lance, James, Will, Dustin, Danielle, Benjamin, Daisy, Ella, Rico, Bear, Nicholas, Lucy, Boaz, Emmanuel, Brandy, Brandon, Cody, Sarah, Isaac, Faith, Michael, Claire, Brooke, Kathryn, and Scarlett. Mary was passionate about her family and grandchildren. She loved going to her grandchildrens ball games and events, which "Mimi" rarely missed when she was physically able. She not only counseled, but prayed diligently for family, friends, and others and sent daily devotionals to numerous people with a mission to share Gods love with them despite her own condition. She was also passionate about advocating for children, especially those with no voice, those that were neglected, and those not yet born. She was an avid volunteer for many years at Birth Choice of Oklahoma, CASA, and was a member of the Oklahoma County Foster Care Review Board (PARB). Mary was also a successful businesswoman who was instrumental in managing her familys transportation company and was a lifetime member of the NRA. She enjoyed looking for a good deal and taught her family to appreciate the value of a dollar. Mary was a beautiful, witty woman with a youthful heart and enjoyed telling a really good story. Marys greatest accomplishment was the sharing of her faith in Jesus Christ with her family and friends. Mary will be missed by all that knew her.
