Mary Elizabeth Brown went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, February 16th, 2011, after a difficult battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born on May 29th, 1930, in Phoenix, Arizona, the only child to Althea Elizabeth Legg. At the age of 4, she and her mother moved to Bethany, OK, where she graduated from Bethany HS in 1948. On September 5th, 1948, she married her high school sweetheart, Bob Brown, at Putnam City Baptist Church, where they met 2 years before and where they raised their family and taught Sunday School for many years. They had 3 sons, Thomas Vern, Dan Edward, and James Robert. Mary was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a homemaker and, as her friends called her, a home-beautifier. Mary and Bob were part of a special group of life-long friends from high school they called "The Bethany Bunch", who continued to get together several times a year for almost 50 years. Mary and Bob also shared a love for Lake Eufaula and, in 1969, built a cabin there which became their second home. Mary and Bob were actively involved in the Eufaula Lakers Square Dance Club where they served as Presidents. Mary was preceded in death by her mother, Althea Legg, her husband, Bob, and a grandson, Justin Brown. She is survived by her sons, Tom Brown, of Defiance, OH, Dan Brown and wife Linda, and Jim Brown and wife Jami, all of OKC; granddaughters, Dana Selby and husband Lee, of OKC, Kristin Sneed and husband Houston, of Edmond; grandsons, Nathan and Jonathan Brown, of Dallas, TX, Chad Brown and wife Courtney, and Matt and Drew Brown, all of OKC; great-granddaughters, Chasney Brown, Alyssa Brown, Elaina Selby, and Lily Grace Sneed; and great-grandsons, Garrett, Colton, and Dillon Cammack and Courd Brown. Services will be at Mercer-Adams Chapel, Bethany, on Monday, February 28th at 2:00 PM. The family would like to thank Carter Hospice for their immediate and excellent care of Mary during her last days.
