Obituary

*The Mary Beer Memorial Service will be live-streamed Tuesday, March 9, starting at 3:30pm.* Tribute to Mary Beer www.youtube.com/watchv=sDJU6_vwmQM Mary Anne (Kupferschmid) Beer, 92, went home to be with Jesus on February 4, 2021, after a short illness. She was born at home on May 24, 1928 in Fountain Creek, Illinois to Louise (Alt) Kupferschmid and Joseph Kupferschmid. She grew up on the family farm, the eighth of ten children, where everyone contributed to the myriad of chores. She met and married her sweetheart, Harold Jess Beer, at age 18, and they had seven children. As a young wife, she worked from home and sewed for a specialty boutique for childrens clothing where she made fancy dresses for little girls. Her interest in sewing began when she was about 11 years old when she designed and made a childs dress and took it into a store in her small town and asked if they wanted to sell itwhich they did! Since she had five daughters, they were outfitted beautifully with her creations. She continued sewing clothing for her great-grandchildren until the last day before her illness. Her passion for learning led her to go back to college at the age of 36 to get her Education degree in high school English. She graduated with honors on the same day as her oldest daughter, Joan. Joan remembers walking to class with her, and people asking if they were sisters. She taught English for many years at Paxton High School in Illinois. She didnt just teach English, however; she inspired her students and brought English to life, including leading several student trips to England. These trips were financed with fundraisers which included putting on madrigal banquets in the high school cafeteria . She later went back to college to get her Masters degree in Library Science. Mary was the beloved school librarian until her retirement, and many previous students still inquire about her to this day. The most important guiding stars in Marys life were her family and her faith. Despite the medical challenges of the diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis at the age of 27, she lived her life courageously, with energy and enthusiasm. She had an indomitable spirit of exploration and going beyond limits and circumstances. She inspired her seven children to become all that they could be in their own lives and made her home a place of cheer and good cooking for them and many other young people who passed in and out of her life. More than anything, Mary loved her Savior, Jesus Christ, and wanted to become more and more like Him. She prayed unceasingly for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren every day of her life and taught by her godly example. She was preceded in death by her sweetheart, Harold, and her oldest son, Dr. Daniel Beer (and surviving spouse, Holly), of Bloomington, Illinois. She is survived by five daughters and their families: Joan Vincent and spouse, Rev. John Vincent, of Oklahoma City; Deborah Loeffler and spouse Alan Loeffler, of Oklahoma City; Julie Elzeftawy and spouse Dr. Atef Elzeftawy, of Antioch, California; Dr. Christine Loeffler and the late Dr. Louis Loeffler, of Edmond, Oklahoma; and Ellen Maliskas and spouse, Michael Maliskas, of Oklahoma City. She is also survived by her youngest son, Ted Beer and spouse Paula Beer, of Oklahoma City. Her loving extended family includes 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
