Mary Lee
Allen
Oct 9, 1941 — Sep 8, 2026
Considered by her late husband to be an Angel on Earth, Mary Lee (Holloway) Allen, age 84,
daughter of Carmel and Bernice (Fletcher) Holloway, was born October 9, 1941 and grew up in
Tulsa, Oklahoma. She passed away September 8, 2026 in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Mary Lee graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1959. She graduated from Oklahoma
Baptist University (OBU) in 1963 where her major was Elementary Education and her minor was
in Art.
While at OBU, Mary Lee married Robert L. (Bob) Allen on June 6, 1961 at Sequoyah Baptist
Church in Tulsa. They both graduated from OBU in 1963 and Mary Lee began teaching
elementary school in Shawnee, Oklahoma. After a couple of years, they moved to New York
where she taught school in Mamaroneck and White Plains, Westchester County, New York.
When they moved back to Oklahoma in 1967, she taught school in El Reno, Banner, and
Western Heights School District in Oklahoma City. She taught school for a total of 35 years
before she retired.
Teaching was one of her great loves; another love was working on her family's genealogy. She
exhibited as much interest in her husband's ancestors as she did her own. She worked
endless hours in documenting more than ten thousand names and recorded them all in Family
Tree Maker and in LDS Search. She had a sharp mind and was a genealogical sleuth. Her
detective work would have made Scotland Yard envious.
She is survived by her sister, Nancy Henry, Tulsa; four children and their spouses: son Douglas
Ray and Cheryl Allen, Tuttle; son David Corliss and Lesley Allen, Austin, Texas; daughter April
Katherine Allen Parady and JD Parady, Salt Lake City, Utah; and son Steven Scott and Megan
Allen, Yukon; sixteen loving grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren, and many nieces
and nephews. She will be greatly missed.
