Obituary

Marvin G. Stice passed away on March 31, 2022 at the age of 95. He was born on February 15, 1927 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Ransom and Donie Stice and was raised with his older sister Edith, who later married Curly Albro. He attended school in Ardmore and made lifelong friends there. His favorite subject in school was Music and he played the Baritone in the Orchestra and Band. In his Senior year at Ardmore High School, Class of 1945, he enlisted at age 17 for military service and missed much of his final year of school. The Principal gave his diploma to his Father who walked across the stage for his High School Graduation. Because of his musical ability, he was sent to join the United States Coast Guard Band in New York City for 2 years in 1945 and 1946 and was a member of a large group of almost 40 musicians. They spent many hours on the parade grounds marching and practicing. They did concerts, parades, radio programs, and played anytime, anywhere they were needed, under the Coast Guard moto: Semper Paratus, Always Ready. From 1947 to 1949 he attended East Central State College in Ada, OK for 2 years, majoring in Music. He then moved to Oklahoma City and began a 38-year career in Banking. He worked for Citizens Bank, First National Bank and Fidelity Bank from 1949 to 1970. Then, he joined the Oklahoma State Banking Department and was a Bank Examiner from 1970 to 1987. He considered many of his co-workers as good friends and carpooled with them. He drove over one million miles in his lifetime. Marvin met his wife, Florence in February 1951 at the train depot in OKC and they married on Thanksgiving Day of that year. They had 2 daughters, Diana and Myra. They built their home in OKC in 1957 and never moved. They bought property at Lake Eufaula in 1967 to have a "lake place" for 50 years, so Marvin could fish, which was a favorite hobby that he learned from his Father. Marvin and Florence both retired in October 1987 to travel more and enjoy their lake place, spending up to 6 months of the year there. They traveled to many places in the U.S. including Hawaii. They attended many USCG Band Reunions of just his group of Band members. They also enjoyed attending Lyrics Musicals and the OKC Philharmonic. Florence and Marvin were married for 67 years before her passing 3 years ago. He made lasting friendships with his neighbors, and many others whose path he crossed in his long life. He cared about and knew so many people. He couldnt go anywhere without running into someone he knew. A very special thank you to Prentice and Gaylene Henley for taking the major time and effort to purchase and deliver every week his groceries, meds, and take his deposits, and mailings these past 2 years during the pandemic. He could not have lived at home without you two!! A special thank you to the caregivers and family at Bellevue Health & Rehab since last October and Life Spring Hospice during his last week. Thank you for taking care of Marvin and making him comfortable during his final days. Marvin is survived by his daughters, Diana Riggs and Myra Woodside, and son-in-law, Haden Riggs. He is also survived by nephews, Bruce Albro and Frank Albro; and great-nephews, Rich Albro, Coby Albro, Scot Albro, Jason Albro, Tim Albro and Derek Albro, who will be pallbearers.
