Obituary

Marvin Eugene Gene Hancock, 69, died March 15, 2010 in OKC. He was born June 4, 1940 in St. Louis, MO, the son of Edgar Perry and Mary Agnes (Smith) Hancock. Gene was a genuine Christian, a global Christian and a true Churchman. Gene was not identified by what he did but by who he was. Although he worked for many years as an insurance agent, most recently Allstate, at the time of his death he was the Administrative Pastor at Lake Overholser Church of the Nazarene, a position he held for the past 15 years. His mission to share the love of Christ reached across the street and around the world, most recently to Argentina and Ethiopia. His closest friends, who affectionately called him Den Daddy, his church family at Lake Overholser Church of the Nazarene and his friends around the world will deeply miss him. Gene Hancock was the best kind of person. Gene was preceded in death by his father, Edgar Perry Hancock. He is survived by his mother, and his siblings: Glenn Hancock and wife Linda, Jim Hancock, Janet (Hancock) Stephens and husband, Arzie and Ken Hancock and wife, Kathy. Viewing will be Friday, March 19, 9am-9pm with the family receiving guests from 4-8pm at Mercer-Adams. Service will be at Lake Overholser Church of the Nazarene in Bethany, OK at 11am on Saturday, March 20. Gene will be laid to rest next to his father in the Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens in St. Louis, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be given to the Gene Hancock Memorial Fund which will be used to build a church somewhere in Africa.
