Martin was born Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1925, in Rhineland, Missouri, to Rev. Milton and Lydia Andrews. He served in the Army in the Pacific theater during World War II. After separation in 1946, he returned to Kansas to complete his education, receiving his MD from the University of Kansas in 1952. After a year-long internship at Bethany Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas, he moved his family to Oklahoma City in 1953 to join a family medical practice, Mayfair Medical Center, which evolved into Central Oklahoma Medical Group.

In 2003, the couple moved to a continuing care community in Westminster, CO for Phillis health. After her death, Martin returned to Oklahoma City, and in 2009 began a new phase of life, marrying his wife DeEtte, and lived an active life of theater, music, travel and continuing education. His curiosity about research and innovation in the world of medicine and health never waned, and he continued to be passionate about his lifes chosen work. He proudly attended his childrens and grandchildrens life events. He was an avid fan of Oklahoma sports teams and watched all the games with noisy enthusiasm.
