Obituary

Martha Louise Gibson, 96, passed into Paradise on July 18, 2019, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was born on August 19, 1922, in Delina, Tennessee to Huey Warner Bigham and Elizabeth Gertrude Davis Bigham. Martha married Raymond Cecil Gibson on December 26, 1942. He preceded her in death on December 25, 1970. They had 3 sons and a daughter. Martha was employed for 30+ years with the Oklahoma City Public Schools as a cafeteria manager, a job she enjoyed because she loved to cook. It was not uncommon for her to alter recipes to make the food tastier so the students would be more apt to eat their lunches. The employees she supervised admired her and many kept in contact with her over the years. Martha exhibited her strong Christian faith in every aspect of her life. She was a member of the NW 21st Church of Christ in Oklahoma City. Her example of Christianity was ever-present. In her final year while living in an assisted living facility her example was still apparent. Many of the staff, residents and home health nursing staff commented about her friendly personality, her quick wit, and her faith in God. For many years Martha participated in the Meals on Wheels program. She loved "cooking for the elderly" as she called it. She was concerned about the program as funding dwindled, which led her family to request donations be made to that program. She appreciated the audio "books on tape" service which helped her mind stay active as her vision diminished. As age took its toll on Martha, she was heartbroken that she could no longer attend worship services of the Church. She sent the congregation messages that she still loved them all and had not quit being a Christian even though she couldnt be there. No one doubted that Marthas faith was still strong. Her Christian legacy will live on for many years through her family, friends and the many hearts she touched. She is survived by her children: Jack and wife Cathy of Oklahoma City, Phillip of Oklahoma City, Steve and wife Kathi of Frisco, TX, and Rheanell and husband Craig Farrill of Prosper, Texas. She has 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren whom she adored as well as nieces and a nephew. Those preceding her in death include her husband, parents, 3 brothers and 1 sister.
