Mark Lindgren died on Friday, May 3, 2019, at the age of 45 after battling an aggressive form of colon cancer. Mark was born in 1974 in Houston, TX. He was the son of Ed and Barbara Lindgren and the younger brother of Paul Lindgren. The family lived in Houston until 1976, when they moved to Temple, TX. They remained in Texas through Marks 6th grade year. Later that summer, they moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mark then attended Jenks Public Schools. He graduated with Honors from Jenks High School in 1992 and was the valedictorian of his class. Given Marks propensity for humor and ability to find just the right words, it is no small surprise that he was chosen by his peers to deliver the valedictory speech. After graduating from Jenks, Mark attended the University of Oklahoma on a National Merit Scholarship where he majored in Physics. While there, he was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society, like his grandmother Alice before him. He graduated from OU with a Bachelor of Science With Distinction. After college, Mark worked as an engineer and met his wife, Eva, while living and working in Tulsa. In 2002, he and Eva moved to Chesapeake, Virginia, where they both took engineering jobs at Newport News Shipbuilding. While there, Mark realized his calling as a doctor and returned to school at Old Dominion University in 2003. He completed his post baccalaureate coursework there and then went on to earn his MD from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. Mark completed his urology residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago and later pursued a fellowship in mens health at Baylor University Medical Center. Upon completion of his training, Mark joined the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center as an attending physician and associate professor. Mark lived life fully and never took a single moment for granted. He believed in going after what he wanted and pursued it passionately.
Mark leaves behind Eva, his wife of 16 years; his parents, Ed and Barbara Lindgren; his brother, Paul Lindgren; sister-in-law, Amy Lindgren; and nieces, Ailis and Caitlin Lindgren. Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edward M. Lindgren, Sr., Alice Smith Lindgren, H. Deane Van Wye, Virginia L. Van Wye; and his uncle; Greg Van Wye.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to colon cancer research.
