On March 14, 2010, Pearle Dawson Cramm Rush died at the Spanish Cove Retirement Center at the age of 97. She was born January 7, 1913, in Ford, Kansas, the second of seven children of Cliff and Nondus Dawson. Two brothers, Clyde and Vernon, and a sister, Dorothy Close, have preceded her in death. She graduated from Ford High School in 1932, after which she attended undergraduate school in Burr Oak, Kansas. After one year she taught at an eight-grade, elementary country school which required a lot of ingenuity and skills, among which was that it required arriving at school early to build a fire for heat and get ready to attend to duties required to teach children of all eight grades.
After she taught school for two years she decided to further her education and obtain the required hours to continue her teaching career. After a few months she opted for a career change and attended business college and made business her career. After completion she worked a short time in Dodge City, Kansas and then headed for a larger metropolitan area, Kansas City, Missouri, where she worked at the Nazarene Publishing House. While in Kansas City, she met Henry Cramm of Leavenworth, Kansas. They were married on October 15, 1948. Pearle and Henry were blessed with two children, Gerald of Denver and Jean Foster of London, England.
In 1977, after a lengthy residence in Midwest City, Pearle and Henry moved to Spanish Cove Retirement Center in Yukon. Henry, more affectionately called Hank, preceded Pearle in death on February 6, 1979. On June 10, 1987, Pearle married Lt Colonel O.W. Rush, another resident of Spanish Cove. He also preceded her in death on May 13, 1998. At the time of her death, Pearle had the distinction of holding the record of length of all residents of the Spanish Cove facility.
Pearle is survived by her two children, Gerald Cramm and Jean Foster. Survivors also include Geralds son, Jerry David who, with his wife, Tia and son Carter live in Denver, and a daughter, Julie Cramm Branch who, along with her husband, Derek Branch, and their three children, Tyler, Kayla and Brylie live in Moore. Pearles daughter Jean and her husband, David Foster live in London, England. They have two children, Shelby who, with his wife, Joanna and son Marley, also live in England, and Tricia who also calls London home.
Other survivors include one brother, Paul Dawson and his wife, Juanita, of Bethany, and two sisters, Berniece Lemmons and Eileen Rollins of Oklahoma City, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Pearle had a multitude of talents, among which was oil and water painting, as well as painting and firing many ceramic pieces, many of which grace homes of relatives and friends. Her hands were never idle.
Although she outlived a host of her friends, she still has many who are glad to call her friend.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 18, 2:00 p.m. at Mercer-Adams Chapel with interment in Arlington Cemetery.
