Marjorie was born to Ivan Moses and Sarah Grace (Petty) Bates in their home at Kingfisher, OK. She was the youngest of their 4 children. She graduated from Kingfisher High School in 1948. She went to Oklahoma Beauty College on a scholarship and then attended Bethany-Peniel College (now Southern Nazarene University). She married Daniel Elijah Brown, Sr. on November 24, 1950 and to the union was born 4 children. She was preceded in death by her twin daughters, Carolyn and Marilyn, her parents, all her brothers, Dr. Howard Bates, Charles E. Bates, Clarence F. Bates, and her husband, Daniel E. Brown, Sr. She is survived by two children, Leona Grace (Roger ) Hall and Daniel E. Brown II; her 5 grandchildren, Teresa (Greg) Blakey, Jenifer (Shane) Hunt, Heather (Daniel) Griffith, Daniel III (Nancy) Brown, and Beverly (Treavor) Rosenberg; 8 great-grandchildren, Andrew and Sarah Hunt, Leah and Cora Brown, Abigail and Jackson Blakey, Brooke and Carter Griffith; wonderful nieces and nephews; her special friend, Robert Dorris; and a host of friends. Marjorie worked as a Beauty Operator for 15 years and then went to work for the Federal Government at Tinker Air Force Base. She then transferred to Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford, MA. She retired from McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, CA. Daniel and Marjorie returned to their home in Bethany and, for the next 15 years, Marjorie worked in the nursery at Bethany 1st Church of the Nazarene, where she was a member. Marjorie received the outstanding service award from Bethany 1st Church of the Nazarene. She was a member Kum-joyn-us Sunday school class, past Treasurer of Louise Robinson Missionary Chapter, member of the Academy of Senior Professionals, Oklahoma City Republican Women's Club, Oklahoma City Audubon Society, past Treasurer of National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Scandinavian Club of Oklahoma. Marjorie spent the final months of her 85 years at home with her daughter and son-in-law. She enjoyed visiting with friends and family, where she loved her grandchildren and adored her great-grandchildren. She went to be with her Lord Jesus on Saturday, November 22, 2014. Visitation will be Tuesday, 9am-9pm, with family present from 5-7 pm at Mercer-Adams. Services will be Wednesday, November 26, 2:00pm at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene with interment in Bethany Cemetery.
