Marilyn Frances Flake Good was born on March 4, 1931 to Fred and Mary Frances Smith in Yukon, OK. She was the baby of the family. Marilyn loved to help her mother with chores. Her mother taught her piano, cooking and gardening. Her brothers, Everett and Joe, called her "little sis;" they would pull her around in their little red wagon. Her sister, Jewell Lee would rock her in their big wooden rocker and pushed her in their tire swing. Marilyn loved all the farm animals and especially loved her dog, "Collie." She loved visiting her cousins in Texas.
In 1949, Marilyn graduated from Yukon High School where she was a member of the band, choir and glee club. She played piano for all the high school choirs. She was football homecoming queen her senior year. Marilyn remained close to her high school classmates and made lifelong friends. She remained active in the Yukon High School Alumni and enjoyed attending all the school reunions.
After high school, Marilyn attended college at Arlington State in Arlington, Texas. After only one semester, she got homesick and enrolled at Oklahoma City University and majored in music. There, she played for the college choir and played for quartets. She was even picked to perform in the OCU Recital Concert Series.
She married William Caspar Flake on August 18, 1956. Together, they had six children. Her firstborn, Billy, died at 9 months during surgery and her third born, Danny, died at 15 months from meningitis. After her husbands sudden death in 1970, she raised her four children on her own. October 3, 1975, she married Rod Good. In 1983, she went to work for AT&T until her retirement in 1996.
Marilyn loved her church. She taught Sunday school, played piano, sang in the church choir and worked in the church nursery for over 30 years. She loved teaching and taking care of children of all ages.
She loved cooking, gardening, camping, traveling, motorcycle rides, singing, dancing, playing the piano and OU football.
Her favorite time was with family and friends. Marilyn was a "natural mother" who took care of everyone. Her home was always open for family and friends that needed a place to stay. Her kitchen table was her favorite place to visit. She would always make a fresh pot of coffee for everyone.
Marilyn loved her grandchildren. She always made time for them. She would play board games, basketball, baseball, take them shopping, swimming, take them to the park and run them to music lessons. She attended all their games.
One of her favorite pastimes continued to be playing piano. She played everyday and enjoyed singing hymns and playing duets. No one played the boogie woogie like Marilyn. She would play the boogie woogie so fast she would almost fly off the piano bench.
Marilyn loved the Lord. She would pray every night in great detail for her family. Her prayers would always begin with "Lord, I love you, Lord, do you know how much I love you" Her Bible was full of cards and notes from her children. She had the best sense of humor. Her smile would light up the room. She would always see the best in everyone.
Marilyn loved her family and friends. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and aunt.
