Marie Bentley was born on April 5, 1930, to Lena Mae McFalls and Wilson Thomas Holloway in Eustace, Texas. She entered heaven on September 22, 2023 at the age of 93.
She married Victor Quinn Bentley on February 3, 1951 in Altus, Oklahoma. Together they had four daughters, Vickie, Linda, Peggy, and Nancy. Her primary role was wife and mother but after her girls were older, she worked as a bookkeeper for various companies. Finally, Marie worked alongside Vic to create a contracting business. They had a life full of work, family, and fun.
Marie credits a teacher she had with changing her life by helping her to learn to speak properly and to improve her social skills. Although she was from humble beginnings, Marie had a deep love of learning and was able to attend Altus Community College for a short time. Her dream was to become a teacher but that was not possible at that time in her life. She guided her girls by her deep love of God, family, and education. All four of her girls became Christians, produced loving families, and became first-generation college graduates. Not surprisingly, under her influence her daughters all become educators.
She became a Christian at an early age and her faith was evident in her life. She was a member of Council Road Baptist Church for many many years. She particularly enjoyed her Sunday School class and the trips with the senior adults.
Besides her faith, the most important thing in her life was her family. She loved Christmas and Thanksgiving because she loved hosting family gatherings every year.
Her grandchildren were the joy of her life. She was Nana to her ten grandchildren. Marie lovingly attended a multitude of activities to support her grandchildren, including sports, plays, scouting events, baptisms, graduations and more. She was always ready to go! Grandchildren loved spending days with Nana, who would often spoil them with icy drinks, sweet tarts and chocolate. Her home and her heart were always open to her family. Several of her grandchildren lived with Nana at various times. She was always ready to open her home if her family was in need and she loved having them! Her fourteen great-grandchildren knew Marie as Nana One, or you might say the original Nana.
After the passing of Vic, Marie reconnected with an old friend from childhood, Vics cousin, James. She married James Bentley in 2002. They enjoyed 10 years together before he passed.
Marie received a diagnosis of dementia eight years ago. She fought this terrible disease with all her might. As the dementia progressed her family and caregivers united to assist her in staying in her home. The family consolidated households and the last two years of her life she lived with her daughter Linda, son-in-law Russ, granddaughter Anna Clifton, and great-granddaughter Josephine Trent, thriving in this multi-generational arrangement.
She leaves behind a loving family, Drs. Vickie and Ken Williamson of College Station, Texas; Linda and Reverend Russ Brown of the home; Peggy and Reverend Tom Clifton of Binger, Oklahoma; and Nancy Fain of Enid; ten grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren. The family would like to thank her caregiver, Marnie Sanders for her love and attention to mom over the past three years.
Marie was preceded in death by her husbands; her son-in-law, Dr. David Fain; and granddaughter, Sheila Rowland.
