Lucile Reed, 97, passed away April 6, 2009, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was born November 6, 1911, in Newton, Kansas, the daughter of Ira and Rachel (Stahley) Lantz. She was the youngest of seven children; her six sisters and one brother all preceded her in death. She attended Newton public schools through high school, and then attended Bresee College in Hutchinson, Kansas, for two years.
After college, Lucile worked as a bookkeeper for Skelly Oil Co., and Nazarene Publishing House in Kansas City. She married Paul Reed in 1946, after his first wife had died. Lucile instantly became the mother of his five-year-old son, Gerard, and a year later they added another child to their family, Barbara. They moved to Dodge City, Kansas, where Paul worked as a meteorologist. Nine years later Pauls job transferred them to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where they remained until 1990 when they moved to Oklahoma City.
Lucile was active throughout her life in church activities, including teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and singing in the choir. In addition to caring for their children, Lucile served as bookkeeper and even unofficial general contractor and construction worker for the seven houses they built as a hobby. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, and playing games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
After retirement in 1973, Lucile and Paul enjoyed traveling to visit children, and making trips abroad to Mexico, Italy, and Panama. Paul passed away in 2003, and soon afterward Lucile moved in with her daughter and husband, where she lived until her death.
Lucile is survived by her children, Barbara Culbertson and Gerard Reed, two grandchildren, Rachele Floyd and Matthew Culbertson, and six great-grandchildren, Jasmyn, Kaitlyn, and Ashton Culbertson, and Macrina, Basil, and Emma Floyd.
