Obituary

Maria de la Luz (Lucy) Mendoza, 46, passed away peacefully in her home on November 25, 2012 surrounded by her children, husband and mother. Lucy was born on January 10, 1966 in San Luis del Cordero Durango, Mexico to Inocente Borrego and Rafaela Vasquez. She was raised by her mother, Rafaela and stepfather, Juan S. Guerrero in El Paso, Texas. Lucy gained 3 step brothers and 3 step sisters through that marriage and later gained a half sister and brother. She also had 3 half sisters, 2 half brothers and 1 step sister through the marriage of her father, Inocente. Lucy graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in El Paso Texas in 1984. During high school, Lucy battled uterine and cervical cancer. Many were inspired by her courage and joy during the difficult battle. She was told she would never have children. But Lucy defeated those odds! In 1988, she married Martin Borrego and was blessed with two beautiful children, Adriana Maria Borrego born in 1992 and Juan Martin Borrego born in 1997. After her marriage to Martin ended, Lucy married Andres Mendoza. They had a strong and happy marriage and Lucy often mentioned how blessed she was to have found Andres. Lucy was extremely hard working and driven. She worked many years as a recovery specialist for the Windsor Group and then for the Hertz Corporation. Her final position was as a car adjuster for Hertz. Lucy was a joy to everyone who knew her. She celebrated life every day and made others happy. She was extremely courageous during difficult times and had the heart of a servant. Hundreds of people were impacted by her generous way of life. She thrived on helping those in need. She was preceded in death only by her stepfather, Juan. Those left to mourn her loss include her husband, Andres; daughter, Adriana; son, Juan Martin; mother, Rafaela; father, Inocente; sisters, Velia, Corina, Rebecca, Cristina, Mayela, Estela, Olga, and Angelica; brothers, Oscar, Luis, Juan, Andres, Cesar and Roberto; plus many nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, aunts and friends who will fervently miss her. Anyone who truly knew her can agree that Lucy was the most courageous, joyful, strong-willed and generous person that we had the privilege to love. Funeral Service Wednesday, November 28, 2012 10:00 AM St. Eugene Catholic Church 2400 W. Hefner Road Oklahoma City, OK
