Obituary

Margretta Aline Sanders Bundy, resident of Bethany Oklahoma, went to be with Jesus Saturday morning, October 13, 2018. She was born November 12, 1929 in San Antonio, TX to Margaret Ann Sanders (Cater) and Seddie Thomas Sanders. Margretta started piano lessons at the age of 3. By the age of 12 she was in love with the instrument and performing at many functions in her hometown and across the state. Upon graduation from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur, Texas, Margretta was offered a full scholarship to Julliard School of Music, but at the time, her mother was very ill and could not send her to New York City alone. She attended Olivet Nazarene College for 2 years and then transferred to Bethany Penial College where she earned a degree in Music Education. While at Olivet she sang in and accompanied the Orpheus Choir where she met John Bundy. They fell in love and were married in Port Arthur, Texas in March of 1953, after completion of Johns military service. They were married for 62 years. Margretta taught elementary music in Port Arthur and Angleton schools for 23 years, and was awarded top honors for her outstanding performance in the field of education. She also taught private piano in her home and was dearly loved by her students. She earned a Master's Degree in Music Education from Lamar University in 1978. Margretta retired from Public School education in 1988. In 1994, John and Margretta moved to Bethany, OK to enjoy the rest of their retirement and live closer to their two grandchildren, Maggie and McCall. While there, she taught music at the Southern Nazarene University School for Children and private piano lessons to many children in the Bethany area. Margretta was never without a cup of coffee in hand. She loved the Church of the Nazarene and served her well. John and Margretta were the lay music ministers at Port Arthur First Church of the Nazarene for four decades. She was the pianist there from the age of 15. Margretta continued to minister to others through music in her Retirement communities and at church until very recently. Her children and grandchildren are thankful for her gift of prayer, her love of Jesus and the love of music that she fostered in them. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, parents, her brother, McCall Sanders and her son, Thomas Clinton Bundy. She is survived by her son, J. McCall Bundy and wife Debra Riggs Bundy; daughter, Margaret Ann (Bundy) Adams and husband Tim Adams; daughter-in-law, Holly Bundy Hart; granddaughters, Maggie Bundy Hart Welliver and husband Seth, and McCall (Adams) Calloway and husband Carson; three great-grandchildren, Isaac, Asher and Eden Welliver; nephews, Jack Sanders and wife Jane, and Tommy Joe Sanders and wife Wanda; and many precious nieces and nephews.
