Margaret Elizabeth Bivens, 80, died February 18, 2014. She was born February 24, 1933 in Cleveland, Ohio to Thomas and Gladys McCusker. Her mother and father turned their lives over to God in the 1930's. They attended Brooklyn Church of the Nazarene. Rev. Andrew Young was their pastor. Margaret was a 4th generation Nazarene. She found the Lord when she was six years old. She asked God to come into her heart as a teen and she went forward for sanctification. As the years passed, her walk with Him was sweeter and better. She married Edwin Bivens in 1951 and three children came from that union. She lived in Ohio until her divorce and then moved to Texarkana, Texas where she was an active member of Texarkana First Church of the Nazarene. She helped them start their first ever singles department in 1979. Next, she followed her daughter, Doris, to Houston, Texas in order to be closer to her first grandchild, Melissa. She lived in Pearland, Texas and really enjoyed the warm weather and weekends in Galveston at the beach. She and her youngest daughter, April, were members of Spring Branch Church of the Nazarene. In 1986, her grandchildren Melissa, Benjamin and Jessica, were in Ohio, so she moved back and spent the next ten years watching them grow into wonderful young people. She attended concerts and recitals and was always ready and willing to babysit. She went to Disney World, riding all the way in the back seat of a sedan with two grandchildren and loving every minute of it. She retired from Marymount Hospital in Ohio and moved to Bethany in 1996, where she lived an active life volunteering in the nursery, Vacation Bible School, and as a delegate for District Assembly at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene. She was very involved in the lives of her grandchildren, Rachel and Michael, in Oklahoma. She attended every event her grandchildren were involved in, from school programs and field trips, to roller skate night and piano recitals. She went to all of the dance recitals, soccer games, basketball games, and would even watch the practices. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren and her life goal was to be a good mother and grandmother. In her free time, she loved to visit with the people of her community. She didn't just go to the bank, but she knew the tellers' names and their stories. Some of her closest friends were her hair dresser and nail technician. She prayed for them daily. She was a missionary in her own backyard. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Tom McCusker, her sister, Doris Harris and her grandson, Matthew Bivens. Survivors include her son, James Bivens and wife Susan of Tallmadge, Ohio; daughter, Doris Tarrance and husband McKinley of Galveston, Texas; daughter, April Collins and husband David of Bethany; 5 grandchildren, Melissa Tarrance, Benjamin Bivens, Jessica Bivens, Rachel Collins and Michael Collins. Memorial services will be Saturday, February 22, 2:00 P.M. at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, Bethany, Oklahoma.
