Barry Mac Moser went home to our Lord and Savior early Friday morning December 31, 2021. Born to Berry Starnes and Lorene (Buck) Moser (Reaser) on October 25, 1943, in Altus, the heart of Oklahomas cotton country; the third child of this union.
Growing up on the farm, Mac learned how to work hard at a very young age. Some of his earliest memories include working alongside his mother, sister Dixie, and brother Gary in the cotton fields and where he fell in love with hunting, fishing, playing baseball, and tinkering. Working on the farm presented challenges of how to accomplish tasks with limited resources that stoked his curiosity and ignited the fire to learn how things work. His curiosity and thirst for knowledge lasted throughout his lifetime.
Mac graduated in 1961 as class President of Friendship High School and studied engineering at Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma prior to enlisting in the US Army in May of 1963, serving 3 years in the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) regiment as an engineering and explosives expert with 14 months in Vietnam. He received an Honorable discharge in August of 1966 with the rank of Sergeant.
Upon returning from his duties in the service, he enrolled at SWOSU in Weatherford, OK where he met his future wife, Gale Elnora Rowland. Gale mentioned the first date did not really impress her much as her twin brother, Dale, chaperoned and they spent the evening mostly talking about Vietnam. However, the connection took and 18 months later, the two wed on June 22, 1968, at the Zion Congregational Church in Weatherford, OK and moved to Woodward, OK soon after to start their respective careers where they raised three children.
Working in the oilfield, Mac worked primarily as a drilling fluids (mud) engineer for over forty-three years and his peers revered him as one of the best in the industry. The oilfield remains an industry where mistakes lead to lethal situations and countless times, his knowledge, take charge attitude, and ability to remain calm under pressure prevented situations from escalating. When folks found themselves in a jam, they knew Mac would answer the call.
Mac loved serving Jesus, his family, and witnessing to people. In Woodward, he directed a children's ministry at the Bible Baptist Church until his duties in the oilfield increased beyond the point he could not devote the time required to continue developing the program. After retiring from the oilfield, he devoted his life to the service of the Lord and gardening. He served in capacities including Sunday school teacher, a prison ministry at the Boley Correctional facility, small group Bible study, and led the Bible study group at Heritage Assisted Living center. Most recently he served as Chairman of the Pastoral search committee for Surrey Hills Church, an honor he felt he did not deserve. Mac answered the call to serve.
