Her Heavenly Father called Mable LaVerne Minick, 98, home on July 21, 2009 to enjoy eternal life in Heaven. She died peacefully in her sleep at home. Born April 4, 1911, in Marshfield, MO, her parents were Loyd Barker and Florence Nix Barker. LaVerne lived most of her life in Oklahoma City and for the last six years resided with her daughter, Suzanna, in Mustang.
LaVerne was especially proud of her family of seven children and 88 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She was also proud of her longevity as she outlived all of her former family members.
Surviving LaVerne are five of her seven children and their spouses: Kenneth and Nova Minick, Suzanna and Leroy Laurent, Richard and Teresa Minick, Janie and Bill Clure, and Judy and Darcy Jennings.
Her husband of 64 years, Harry Austin, and two sons, Harry W. and Tommy, preceded LaVerne in death. Her parents, brother and sisters also preceded her in death.
LaVerne taught school after receiving a degree in education from Oklahoma City University in 1933. LaVerne retired from General Electric/Honeywell in 1976. She was a member of the American Business Womens Association, Al-Lu-We Chapter.
She will live forever in the hearts of her friends and family, but she will be greatly missed.
The family will be available to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 23 at Mercer-Adams. The service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 24, at Mercer-Adams, with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery.
