Lydia Wheeler, 73, of Yukon, passed away on May 8 from natural causes at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. Lydia was a retired English teacher who inspired many students to love learning at Kenneth Cooper Middle School in the Putnam City School District. Lydia was an active member of Crossings Community Church, enjoyed Bible studies and mentoring youth in the church.
Lydia was born in Uvalde, Texas, to Lucille and Mark Keeton and was the oldest of four children. Upon graduation from Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio, Lydia attended Southern Nazarene University, formerly known as Bethany Nazarene College.
Lydia was strong in her faith in God and a firm believer in the power of prayer. Lydia was preceded in death by her mother and father. She is survived by her husband of more than 50 years, Dave Wheeler. Lydia is also survived by her three children, Rhonda Wheeler, Mark (Julie) Wheeler and Cindy (Lowell) Stump; two sisters, Nadine Chadwell and Marcille McKelvey; and one brother, Ken Keeton. Lydia is also survived by six grandchildren.
A memorial viewing for Lydia will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 14 at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service in Bethany. Family will be present from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Services will be Saturday, May 15, 10:00 a.m. at Mercer-Adams Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in her name (by check) to Crossings Community Church, 14600 N. Portland Avenue, OKC, OK 73134, Attention Finance Office, with her name written in the memo box.
