Obituary

Rev. Lucille Meredith Law was born near Harper, Kansas on March 13, 1921, and departed this life April 23, 2017. She was converted around the age of 5 years old and was later sanctified as a second, definite, instantaneous work of grace at the First Church of the Nazarene in Bethany, Oklahoma. God's call to the preaching ministry no doubt began early as she sat her dolls on the bed and taught them. Later, she used reeds growing along the meandering creek on her father's farm to "baptize" them while calling them by the name of her dolls. Her call to preach was a growing realization, but it was a definite call from God. Lucille's parents dedicated her to the Lord when she was around 12 years of age. On September 7, 1941, she married her college sweetheart, Richard W. Law. After his military service both Lucille and Dick finished college, graduating from Bethany Nazarene College in 1949. They enrolled in the fall of 1949 at Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri. They were ordained together in 1951 at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene. Since they were the first couple to graduate from Nazarene Theological Seminary who were married when they enrolled, they were allowed to graduate together in 1953 receiving the Bachelor of Divinity degree. They worked together in pastorates and spent almost 24 1/2 years in the field of fulltime evangelism. God honored both of their preaching with thousands of souls. It was in a Kentucky Camp Meeting that a lady was gloriously converted. She paid over half of the fares for Lucille and Dick to go on a 21day tour of Israel, Greece, and Italy. This was accompanied by extensive schoolwork with some classes in East Jerusalem. This gave both Lucille and Dick sufficient postgraduate credit to change their degrees to Master of Divinity. In 1977, God led Dick to the State Prison Chaplaincy at the now Mack Alford Correctional Center. Lucille assisted him there approximately 7 years as a volunteer assistant in his Chapel services. She had in over 2,000 volunteer hours for and in connection with the Correction system. It was while working there that God put the soul of Frank Chase, a habitual criminal on her heart. Through many, many days of fasting and prayer, she saw Frank saved, sanctified, called to preach and delivered from around 40 years of smoking. She saw him paroled from a 42year count, and later a complete pardon from the State of Oklahoma, signed by Governor George Nigh. Lucille performed Frank's marriage ceremony to Ramona in 1980. God gave Frank and Ramona to Dick and Lucille as "adopted" son and daughterinlaw. Lucille loved her family so much and her precious grandchildren, Laura and John. They brought her much love, joy and happiness. Lucille was the coordinator of the Volunteers in Corrections and was also a volunteer hospital Chaplain at the Atoka hospital. While attending college at the now Southern Nazarene University, Lucille taught private piano lessons. Later in life she had several piano students. She retired from the Oklahoma Tax Commission in 1990 when she was nearly 70 years old. Rev. Lucille Meredith Law was born near Harper, Kansas on March 13, 1921, and departed this life April 23, 2017.
