Louis M. Bunch, 91, of OKC went to be with the Lord on January 1st, 2017. His wife of 70 years, Doris, and his son, Kenneth, were by his side as he began his journey into heaven.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Elihu ("Buck") and Ora Lee Bunch. Louis was the youngest boy of ten children, and each brother preceded him in death, including Houston, C.O. ("Dink"), Preston, Leonard, Jack, Donald, Grady and Cecil. Louis is survived by his wife, Doris Lane Bunch, sister, Bonnie Holder, and his three sons and their wives, including Bruce Bunch and Paula Kreizinger, Kenneth and Debbie Bunch, and Troy and Ann Bunch. Louis is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Amy Elizabeth Bunch Smith, Mark Bunch, Katie Bunch Clarke, Adam Bunch, Andrew Bunch, Eric Bunch, Ian McKay and Sara McKay, as well as four great-grandchildren, including Megan Smith, Marjorie Bunch, Vivian Bunch and Elliott Bunch. Louis also had many nieces and nephews who loved him very much.
Louis served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy. Following that, he served his city for 27 years on the OKC Fire Department where he retired as Deputy Chief. During his tenure with OKC Fire, he was instrumental in starting the Oklahoma City Firefighters Union and served as the organizations first president. After retiring, Louis served his state as Executive Director of the Oklahoma State Firefighters Association (OSFA). During that service, Louis worked extremely hard to improve health, safety standards and quality retirement benefits for all firefighters. He was deeply respected statewide in the fire service.
Louis was a longtime member and servant of Portland Avenue Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.
Louis was loved and adored by all who knew him. As a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, he lived his life serving others. Louiss legacy and spirit will live on in all those who will miss him tremendously.
