Obituary

Lorraine Frances Clarke, age 75, of Warr Acres, OK, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2012, at the Integris-Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City after a three-year battle with lymphoma and complications of chemotherapy. Wake service will be at Mercer-Adams Funeral Home on Friday, January 27, 2012, at 7 p.m. Services will be held Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 5024 N. Grove, OKC. Lorraine was born to John and Molley Saragosa in Los Angeles on Fathers Day, June 21, 1936. She graduated from Franklin High School in Los Angeles and attended UCLA, taking courses in Psychology. Lorraine worked for 15 years at Security Pacific National Bank in Highland Park, CA where she was fondly known as the Aztec Goddess, Grandma, Sweet Lorraine and the Executive Secretary. She moved to Dallas, TX in 1977 with husband Daniel and worked in the Corporate Treasury office of Atlantic Richfield Company. After moving to San Antonio, TX in 1980, she began a career in the hospitality industry, earning the Certified Hotel Administrator designation, and going on to work at La Quintas corporate office in San Antonio where she won accolades as she rose through the training department. After moving to Oklahoma City in 1994, again following husband Daniels career odyssey, she served as Executive Housekeeper at the Hilton, Westin and Sheraton hotels. Lorraine married Richard Ruiz in 1954 and they had a son, Ricky, and a daughter, Debra (also born on Fathers Day). In 1973, she married Daniel George Clarke, and they shared 38 precious years together. She is survived by her loving husband; son Ricky Ruiz; daughter Debra Ruiz; and granddaughter Dina Valenzuela. Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, brother Johnny and grandson Anthony Ruiz. Lorraine enjoyed cooking, hosting parties and traveling. She enjoyed trips to London, Paris, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Haiti, as well as to cities across the U.S. in connection with Daniels work. Lorraine loved the ocean, especially around the Carmel Monterey area of California. She attended the annual Monterey Jazz Festival every year since 1975. Her favorite performer was jazz and blues singer Etta James, who appeared at the festival 10 times between 1975 and 2002. Etta died the same day (Los Angeles time) as Lorraine. Surely, they sat next to each other on the way to heaven. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made to the American Cancer Society, High Plains Division Inc., 6525 N. Meridian, Ste 110, Oklahoma City, OK 73116-1411.
